Why Pediatric ENT?
Children are not miniature adults. The anatomy and physiology of the ENT region in children differs significantly from that of adults: the Eustachian tubes are shorter and more horizontal, adenoid tissue is physiologically present, and ENT infections are more frequent and may progress differently. An ENT specialist with pediatric experience knows how to address these particularities.
Common ENT conditions in children
- Acute and chronic otitis media — middle ear infection, one of the most common childhood conditions
- Serous otitis (with effusion) — fluid in the middle ear, causing conductive hearing loss
- Adenoid hypertrophy — a frequent cause of mouth breathing, snoring, and recurrent ear infections
- Chronic tonsillitis — repeated infections that may require tonsillectomy
- Rhinosinusitis — inflammation of the nasal and sinus mucosa
- Sleep disorders / obstructive sleep apnea — frequently caused by adenotonsillar hypertrophy
- Hearing loss in children — early detection and therapeutic management
Pediatric surgical procedures
- Adenoidectomy — removal of hypertrophied adenoid tissue
- Tonsillectomy — removal of the palatine tonsils
- Transtympanic drainage — insertion of ventilation tubes (grommets) for serous otitis
- Myringotomy — incision of the tympanic membrane for drainage
- Nasal turbinate cauterization — for chronic nasal obstruction
