What are ENT laser procedures?
The medical laser (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) is a high-precision instrument used in otorhinolaryngology for cutting, vaporizing, or coagulating tissues. The main advantage: it acts selectively, with minimal impact on surrounding structures.
Advantages over traditional surgery
- Millimetric precision — the laser beam acts exactly on the target area
- Immediate hemostasis — the laser cauterizes small vessels in real time, reducing bleeding
- Reduced postoperative pain — minimal tissue trauma
- Rapid healing — edema and scar formation is significantly reduced
- Outpatient procedures — many laser interventions can be performed without hospitalization
Indications for laser in ENT
- Tonsillar cryptolysis with laser — for cases of tonsil stones (tonsillar caseum)
- Laser turbinoplasty — reduction of hypertrophied inferior nasal turbinates
- Vaporization of small nasal polyps
- Excision of pharyngeal and laryngeal papillomas
- Treatment of snoring through laser uvulopalatoplasty
- Laser procedures on the tympanic membrane
How is a laser procedure performed?
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, with the patient seated comfortably. The duration varies between 15 and 45 minutes. Recovery is rapid — most patients return to their usual activities within 1-3 days.
